The Resort
Sunriver is a 3,340-acre resort and residential/recreation oriented community located 15 miles south of Bend in Central Oregon. Developing since 1968, the community consists of approximately 2,834 homes, 858 condominiums, and another 388 lots that are sold but not built on, giving a final total of approximately 4,080 dwellings. Over 1800 people make Sunriver their full-time home and dozens of
other families spend up to several months a year in the Central Oregon sunshine.
Recreation
Everyone can find something to do here. Recreation facilities include two 18-hole golf courses, 29 tennis courts, 35 miles of paved bike paths, two swimming pools, Mavericks Fitness Center with indoor pool, stables, an ice rink, mini-golf course, marina, Nature Center, white water rafting, canoes, and Nordic and Alpine skiing nearby at Mt. Bachelor.
Sunriver's North Woodlands Course is an 18-hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. The South Meadows Course has been completely redesigned by Fought Golf Design's John Fought, which just recently re-opened June 1, 1999. There is also a 9-hole putting course, which is located near the Sunriver Lodge. The exclusive Crosswater Golf Course is approximately 2 miles away. There are also about 22 other golf courses within a short distance of Sunriver, including Lost Tracks which offers discounts to Sunray renters.
Sunriver's paved and lighted 5,500-ft. airstrip, one of the longest private airstrips in the West and the third busiest private airport in Oregon. The airport is open all year with both fuel and rental cars available.
Mt. Bachelor
Mount Bachelor, only 18 miles from Sunriver, offers skiing for alpine and nordic skiers. With the Summit Lift, the season for Alpine usually extends from late November through early July. Nordic skiing is also popular on the fairways of Sunriver's golf courses and on the adjacent forestlands. For the Nordic skier, there are also 50 kilometers of groomed trails at the base of Mt. Bachelor during the ski season. You can also go for a sled dog ride and see more beautiful, pristine
mountain scenery.
Food and Shopping
The Sunriver Village includes a full-service grocery store, bakery, liquor store, beauty salons, gift and apparel shops, deli, soda fountain and candy store, book store, boutiques, sports shops, bank, ice skating rink (winter), miniature golf course, bike and ski rentals, video shops, and many
professional services. There are a variety of eateries with dining choices ranging from popcorn and ice cream to pizza, Italian, Chinese, Mexican, Traditional and seafood. Other shopping areas include the Sunriver Marketplace on Cottonwood road and the Crossroad Station in the Business Park. The Sunriver Lodge has formal dining at the Meadows and casual dining at the Cafe. The Owl's nest lounge offers live music on a regular basis.
The Community
Sunriver is a complete community, providing public services such as the Department of Public Safety with emergency medical technicians, police force, ambulance, fire department and street maintenance. Sunriver Utilities provides water and sewer service to the complex. All utilities, including electric, gas, telephone lines, and TV cables are underground. Sunriver has an interdenominational Community Church, and services held in the area that serve Catholic, Lutheran, Episcopal and Southern Baptist Faiths.
